JURYING AT THE PACIFIC ART LEAGUE
The Pacific Art League of Palo Alto organizes monthly exhibitions on themes and genres relevant to the community of working artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. Gallerists, museum professionals, and arts writers are invited to work with our Gallery Manager to jury and judge these exhibitions. Jurors receive an honorarium of $150 upon completion of their work and are credited in PAL’s publicity materials.
ABOUT OUR PROCESS
Submissions are open to the public, and are processed through Submittable.com. Jurors must accept an invitation to view the entries, and use that platform to indicate their selections.
The number of submissions is variable and sometimes difficult to predict in advance. PAL has historically typically received between 75 and 200 submissions per exhibition.
The majority of PAL exhibitions are open to works of any medium.
It is always very helpful when jurors promote the opportunity to artists in their networks as well, and the Gallery Manager provides jurors with a link to be used for that purpose.
Jurors visit the exhibition in the week between installation and the First Friday evening reception to select the winners of 3 cash prizes and 3 honorable mentions.
Jurors are encouraged to attend our opening receptions, where they are invited to make a brief statement to our audience about the exhibition, their perspective, or perhaps an entry point for engaging with the show.
Juried exhibitions at PAL occupy two galleries with about 65 running feet each. We also have We typically aim to exhibit at least 50 works, and have multiple pedestals available for sculpture. Please direct questions to the Gallery Manager.
