Summer 2010 Camps for Kids and Teens PDF Print E-mail
PAL offers 7 week-long sessions of Art Camps this summer. Each camp is 3 hours long, either 9 - noon or 1 - 4pm (with the exception of Glass Fusing in session 5, which is 9am - 2pm). For students taking both the morning and afternoon sessions there is an (optional) supervised lunch available for $25/week (not including bag lunch).

All camps are held in Studio One except Printmaking with a Press which is held in the Printroom. Materials are included in the class fee unless otherwise noted. 

SESSION 1:  JULY 5 - 9
MORNING CAMP (9 - noon)

C1 Art Around the World  7 - 12 yrs
This class will explore art from around the world, from Australian aboriginal art to French Impressionism. We will use paint, wood and paper sculpture integrated to make all kinds of objects of art, from paintings to sculpture to collage. Experience the joy and freedom of discovery and creative achievement.

  AFTERNOON CAMP (1 - 4pm)

C2 Create with Clay  7 - 12 yrs
Have a whole week to work with some imaginative 3-D possibilities. From animals to pots, mythological creatures to story sculpture, the possibilities are endless. We will learn how to build, sclupt and glaze in this week-long workshop. Bring your wonder filled imaginations. Material fee $15 to instructor.

SESSION 2:  JULY 12 - 16
MORNING CAMP (9 - noon)

C3 Animal Wonders  5 - 8 yrs
Learn to draw and paint your favorite animals - dogs, horses, elephants, cats and more! Create an animal mask and a cut mummy. Bring pictures of your pet or the pet of your dreams for inspiration. Material feel $10 to instructor.

  AFTERNOON CAMP (1 - 4pm)

C4 Carooning & Comics  7 - 12 yrs
Here's a fun class for all you kids who want to produce your own cartoon and comics. Cartoons are a great way to express your sense of humor and to convey an idea in a concise, visual format. Emphasis in this class will be on conceptual development, storytelling and refinement of drawing skills. We will also work on developing your own characters and comic strip ideas. Animated cartoon and features will be shown near the end of every class, not only for our amusement but to really see how the pros produce great cartoons.

SESSION 3:  JULY 19 - 23
MORNING CAMP (9 - noon)

C5 Sea World  5 - 8 yrs
Draw, paint and sculpt your favorite sea creatures! Create fish kites, paper mache dolphins, air dry clay starfish and fresco ocean scenes. Hear about stories from the deep ocean and create your own deep sea treasure chest. Material fee $10 to instructor.

SESSION 4:  JULY 26 - 30
MORNING CAMP (9 - noon)

C8 Watercolor Workshop  7 - 12 yrs
This is a workshop in learning many techniques of basic classical watercolor as expressed in exercises and then applied to several paintings - from still life to landscape.

  AFTERNOON CAMP (1 - 4pm)

C10 Watercolor Intensive  13 - 18 yrs
This workshop studies in detail many techniques of basic classical watercolor. It is an intensive study of the medium finalized by mastery and application of many skills to create beautiful watercolor paintings.

Here is a rare opportunity to learn the art of printmaking using a hand-operated printing press. We'll explore a variety of printmaking techniques including etching, monotype and relief. Bring you rimagination and you'll be amazed at what you create!

SESSION 5:  AUGUST 2 - 6
ALL DAY CAMP (9 - 2pm)

C11 Glass Fusing  12 - 16 yrs
Learn the safe way to cut glass, creating detailed shapes and patterns using glass tools. Then, using the instructor's kiln, fuse the pieces together to form amazing decorative and functional glassware. Instrucor will provide close supervision, safety gloves and goggles, and lessons in safe glass handling. Materials fee $15 to instructor; bring bag lunch.

C12 Fun Fanciful Art  6 - 8 yrs
In a relaxed, supportive environment, young artists will have the opportunity to paint, use pastel, work with clay, draw, put together collages, and create paper sculptures. Material fee $15 to instructor.

C14 Puppets, Puppets, Puppets!  5 - 8 yrs
Sleeping giants, sweet felt pigs and movable clay puppets are just a few of the amazing puppets you'll make in this adventurous class. Working with a variety of materials and techniques you will complete camp with a puppet suitable for all of your shows. Raise the curtain and let the show begin!

C15 Sculpting with Paper  7 - 12 yrs
From geometric mobiles to cootie catchers, from rice paper lanterns to art books and everything in between you will have a blast in this exciting class. We will sculpt dozens of beautiful items using beautiful papers. You will be proud to show your art work to family and friends.
