3-SU10 Drawing: Technical Foundation Beg/Int
This class will provide a foundation in classical drawing and realism. The focus is on rendering a convincing depiction of three-dimensional forms and spaces on a flat surface. Lectures, demonstrations, and drawing exercises will investigate basic principles of perspective and composition, developing light and shadow shapes and finishing artwork with precision. 5-SU10 Travel Sketching
First class meets at the Pacific Art League in the Norton Gallery. We will focus on keeping a "visual journal" for fresh, spontaneous recordings of your surroundings. Learn contour drawing, shading and using shapes to add dimension, and create a functional art travel kit.The class will meet each week at a different, pre-determined location. With clay as the building medium, you will learn sculptural techniques, form and structure. Special emphasis will be given to anatomy and how it relates to sculpture. This class teaches the carving of soft stone using hand tools: roughing out the initial shape, detailed shaping, polishing and sealing. If you would like to advance your digital photography skills, this workshop is for you. First you will explore the right brain or “artist brain” response to photography, so that composition becomes the most important aspect to shooting. Then you will study the leftbrain or “logical brain” requirements, such as camera operation and essential features.
