Academic Director

The following describes the roles and responsibilities for the key position of Academic Director, leading the development and scheduling of all educational programs offered at a small prestigious, non-profit art school.

  • Strategically lead the development of all classes and workshops while ensuring the maximization of the space available in our facility with the right mix of media and class structure

  • Ensure curriculum is balanced and classes/workshops offered, help in our goal of retaining students, by giving them the opportunity to progress through differing media and levels of instruction

  • Target new student groups with classes which will appeal to their community, ensuring our student body is growing and reflects the evolving demographic profile of Silicon Valley

  • Monitor competitive local institutions to ensure we are maintaining and building our market share

  • Be known as a leader in the local arts community and be an advocate of our organization, be visible and active

  • Manage our faculty of more than 45 part time instructors, be their champion by ensuring their business and artistic relationship with us is very positive and provide all adequate marketing support working with our marketing function

  • Identify and recruit new teachers and consistently evaluate current faculty

  • Work with staff and PAL Board to develop effective database of faculty, capturing all relevant detail to assist in class planning 

  • Work closely with marketing function to create quarterly course and workshop catalogs.  Work with instructors to optimize course descriptions to ensure effective marketing. Manage the workflow and schedule of catalog production

  • Manage across our team and communicate effectively while also managing direct reports

  • Be a visible advocate for our student base and manage the regular process of student surveying and feedback

 

Required Experience

We wish to continually raise the level of our education program, ensuring we offer the broadest array of high caliber courses across many media, while increasing the cultural and demographic diversity of our student base.

With this goal in mind, the successful candidate will have an extensive background in creating and maintaining a similar education program preferably from within the visual arts or other aligned liberal arts.

An interest and passion for visual arts in the geographic region is very desirable. The successful candidate will also display a talent for administration, with a proven focus on detail. The role also requires excellent people management skills to successfully interface with a broad range of teaching faculty and our student base.

The role will be competitively compensated dependent on experience with a generous vacation allowance and health care. The role may be part or full time and will report directly to the Executive Director/ CEO.
