Memory Lane

Sue Krumbein taught middle school for forty years, spending the last thirteen as a school librarian. She cultivated her library as a welcoming community space where students gathered to research, read, discuss books, complete homework, and discover new ideas. Throughout her career, she believed that education and creativity go hand in hand, encouraging curiosity, observation, and a lifelong appreciation for learning.

Following her retirement, Sue expanded her passion for education beyond the classroom by becoming deeply involved in the Bay Area arts and cultural community. She has served as a docent at Filoli, San Francisco City Guides, and Gamble Garden, leading engaging tours that connect people with the rich stories behind art, architecture, gardens, and local history. She has also been an active volunteer and advocate for numerous arts and nonprofit organizations, helping foster community engagement through creative programming, fundraising, and public art initiatives.

Sue is especially interested in the stories that connect people to places and to one another. She believes that art, history, and shared experiences have the power to build stronger communities, spark curiosity, and inspire joy—and she finds proof of that wherever she goes.
