102nd Anniversary Exhibition & Fundraiser

The Pacific Art League is excited to announce its 102nd Anniversary Exhibition & Fundraiser, a celebration of art and creativity that honors over a century of artistic expression. The funds raised directly contribute to PAL's yearly operations, enabling us to sustain affordable educational programs, maintain high-quality exhibits, offer scholarships, and provide free community outreach programs.

We invite artists from all backgrounds and mediums to submit their work for consideration in this open-themed exhibition.

OPENING RECEPTION

Category ribbons awards will be announced at the reception. This event is free and open to the public.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all artists (members & non-members) and artistic works.

ENTRY FEE
The 102nd Anniversary entry fee is a tax-deductible donation.

  • Each submission: $50

  • Submit 4 and get a 5th submission free

ART INTAKE
Accepted works must be hand-delivered to PAL on Thursday, October 26, 2022 (12pm - 4pm only)

ART PICK UP
Exhibited works must be picked up at PAL at the end of the exhibit on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 (12am - 4pm only)

AWARDS
Ribbons will be award to works selected by the Preston Metcalf.

SALES COMMISSION
60/40 split for Members & Non-Members (in favor of the artists). Artists are given the option to donate a percentage of their commission back to PAL (a donation receipt will be provided).

GUIDELINES
Measurements are based on the piece’s longest side, including the frame.

  • Size of work is limited to 36” wide by 36” tall, including the frame. Please note, that anything submitted over 36” will not be accepted into the show.

  • All 2D work must be ready to hang on a wire.

  • All 2D work must be framed or on gallery-wrapped canvas with finished edges.

  • All work must be labeled on the front with the title and artist’s name (post-it or paper taped to frame work well).

  • All works must be dry to the touch.

About the Juror

Preston Metcalf

Preston Metcalf possesses the innate ability to discern exceptional works of art, a gift that aligns harmoniously with his vocation as a curator and art historian. He embarked on his illustrious career as a Curator of Art at the prestigious San Jose Museum of Art. Subsequently, he extended his invaluable expertise to the Triton Museum of Art, initially serving as the Curator of Education before ascending to the role of Assistant Director, where he contributed his dedicated service for several years.

Preston's journey then led him to assume the distinguished position of Executive Director at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, where he orchestrated significant developments in the realm of contemporary art. His far-reaching influence transcends geographical boundaries, as he has delivered lectures on art and art history, both nationally and internationally, sharing his erudition with a global audience.

Notably, Preston Metcalf has a prolific literary presence, boasting a bibliography that encompasses over sixty published articles and essays, all devoted to the elucidation of various artists and facets of art history. Following a brief interlude dedicated to pedagogy and scholarly writing, he returned to the Triton Museum, currently serving as its esteemed Curator of Art. His commitment to education extends beyond the museum's walls, as he imparts his extensive knowledge through the instruction of Art History at institutions of higher learning, including Mission College, San Jose City College, and the Triton Museum of Art.
